Bowmen of Leeds
Mark G completed our beginners’ course in February and entered his first tournament this month. He writes:-
“On Sunday 12th November, I was one of four Bowmen of Leeds archers who entered the York Archers Society Double Portsmouth competition. I've been shooting for less than a year, and it was my first time taking part in a competition—a daunting prospect, but the whole day confirmed my experience so far that archery is a very welcoming sport where all can come along and enjoy the challenge and camaraderie.
An organised competition means some formality is necessary to keep everything running smoothly, but as a first-timer I was cheerfully kept right by the more experienced archers I travelled with from the club, and by the others on my target. We all had great fun, but Bowmen of Leeds member Pete did particularly well, finishing second in the Senior Gents Recurve division, including recording an impressive new personal best of 582/600 in the afternoon round. Well done, Pete!

This might have been my first time at a competition, but I've definitely caught the bug and it won't be long before I take part in another.”
Yes, archery is a welcoming, family friendly sport, open to a wide range of ages and abilities!
